Winter Park Public Resources

What’s Nearby

The original residents of the Orlando area were the Native America Seminole culture. The first Europeans arrived in the area in 1858, renaming the area to Osceola in 1870. Ten years later, the South Florida Railroad track was laid through the area, and the planning and founding of Winter Park took place soon after.

Today, Winter Park is part of the larger Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Area. Originally founded as a resort community, it features large tracts of open space, street-side shopping, and a community beach and boat launch. The current population is just over 28,000, with many more visitors passing through each year.
