Types of sugar additives

Do you think you could go a day without sugar? How about a week or a month? Or if you are really up for a challenge, do you think you could go an entire year without sugar?

If you pay attention to the news, you may have seen articles recently about Eve O. Shaub and her book “ Year of No Sugar ”. Eve was inspired to try an experiment – to go a year without sugar. And Eve wasn’t attempting this challenge alone, she did this along with her husband and 2 daughters. So, in 2011, the family abstained from sugar.

According to a Huffington Post article, “They combed packaged foods for other names for sugar, including high fructose corn syrup, crystalline fructose, maple syrup, honey, molasses, evaporated cane juice, as well as artificial sweeteners. They started preparing more food at home. Each family member was allowed one regular exception that contained a small amount of sugar — Eve opted for a glass of red wine — and once a month, the family would have an agreed-upon dessert.”

So, what do you think – how long could you make it without sugar?

Do you even know how much sugar you consume in a given day? Next time you go shopping, check the packages to see how many common foods you eat contain hidden sugars.
