There is a general perception in our country that almost no one succeeds in long-term weight loss maintenance. This belief stems from a study done back in 1959 where it was shown that out of 100 treated obese individuals, only 2% of them maintained a weight loss of 20 pounds or more after 2 years! Things have changed quite a bit since then. Strategies have been developed for maintaining weight with a much higher success rate.

The risk of regaining lost weight decreases with each month your preferred weight is maintained. Individuals who are able to keep their weight off for 2 years have markedly decreased odds of regaining!

One very important study by the American Medical Association shows that after completion of a supervised medical weight loss program, patients that continued to have at least monthly supervision were far more likely to keep the weight off than those who tried to maintain on their own.

Statistics now show that 1 in 5 people can successfully maintain their weight for 2 or more years. That statistic improves to 3 in 5 for Individuals in a long term maintenance program for 12 months or longer! Which group would you rather be in??
