Woman drinking water during exercising

How much water do you drink every day? Is it enough to keep you hydrated?

The human body is 75% water and your body needs 8 8-ounce glasses of water every day. So, how much are you drinking per day?

Check out the infographic below to see why you need to ensure you’re drinking enough water every day.

What Happens When You Don’t Have Enough Water?
  • Fatigue. Water is the most vital source of energy for your body. Without enough water, your body slows down leaving you feeling tired and fatigued.
  • High Blood Pressure. When you have enough water in your body, your blood is able to flow normally. Without enough water, your blood thickens causing resistance to blood flow and resulting in higher blood pressure.
  • Asthma and Allergies. When water-deprived, your blood constricts your airways as a way to conserve water. The rate of histamine increases exponentially as your body loses water.
  • Skin Disorders. Dehydration impairs your ability to remove toxins through the skin and makes it more vulnerable to all types of skin disorders.
  • High Cholesterol. When dehydrated, your body produces more cholesterol to prevent water loss from cells.
  • Digestive Disorders. Digestive disorders like ulcers and gastritis can result from a lack of water and alkaline minerals in the body.
  • Bladder or Kidney Problems. If your body is dehydrated, the resulting accumulation of toxins and acid wastes creates an environment where bacteria thrive resulting in the bladder and kidney to be more prone to infection, inflammation, and pain.
  • Constipation. When short on water, your body will draw from the colon and without adequate water, wastes move more slowly through the large intestine much more slowly or sometimes not at all resulting in constipation.
  • Joint Pain or Stiffness. All of your joints have cartilage padding which is composed mostly of water but when you are dehydrated, cartilage is weakened and joint repair is slow resulting in pain and discomfort.
  • Premature Aging. When chronically dehydrated, the body’s organs, including the skin, your largest organ, begin to wrinkle and wither prematurely.
  • Weight Gain. If your body is dehydrated, your body can not effectively eliminate the toxins and ends up storing them in fat cells. And, if that’s not bad enough, your body then stores the fat until or unless it is sufficiently hydrated to safely remove the toxins.

Hydration isn’t about consuming fluids. It’s about consuming water. The number one source of excessive calories in a person’s diet comes from sugar-based beverages such as sodas and fruit juices.

By the way, when you feel thirsty – you are already dehydrated!
