Calla Slimspa was opened in 2008

in beautiful Winter Park, Florida.

Dr. Gil and Dr. Scarcella are a physician team that has practiced in the Orlando area since 1990. Through

their practice of Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics and Aesthetics they found that many of the problems

people today were facing were due to having poor nutritional habits or being overweight.

Their patients were also finding it difficult to

maintain a healthy weight as they got older.

This physician team then implemented a comprehensive weight loss and weight management program that has provided a very successful and long term

solution for their patients.

Anthony Scarcella, M.D.

Dr. Scarcella is a native of the Los Angeles area. Following medical school he trained in internal medicine, pediatrics and emergency medicine and is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. For the past 20 years he has treated patients in the emergency department with illnesses directly related to obesity such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. Rather than just treat these illnesses, Dr. Scarcella became board certified in bariatrics and became a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians to help prevent them.

Suzanne Gil, M.D.

Dr. Gil was born and raised in Miami, Florida. Following graduation from medical school, she moved to Orlando in 1987 where she completed her residency at ORMC in pediatrics in 1990. Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, she was a well-known and respected pediatrician until 2005 when she became interested in aesthetics. Because her patients, both adolescents in her pediatric practice and patients in her aesthetic practice, needed help with their weight, Dr. Gil received advanced training in bariatrics. Dr. Gil is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.

Sheila Walaszek, M.D.

Dr. Sheila Walaszek was born and raised in the state of Kansas.  She attended the University of Kansas, where she received her medical degree.  In 1989, Dr. Walaszek moved to Orlando, FL, and she has been practicing here ever since.  She has a special interest in sports medicine, nutrition and exercise.  Dr. Walaszek joined the Calla Slimspa family in October 2008.

Linda Whittaker, Executive Director

Linda is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and is now a twenty-two year Florida resident.  Linda became a part of Calla Slimspa family in August 2008, with twenty-five years of experience in the medical field.  Education, training and work experiences include radiology, medical assisting and administration.  She can’t imagine working in any other profession.  Thanks to Calla Slimspa, Linda’s husband and daughter have lost over 110 pounds together!  The Whittaker family of four enjoys a healthy, slim lifestyle.      

Heather Markel, Certified Medical Assistant

Heather was raised in Sarasota, FL and moved to Orlando, FL to be near her family.  She is a proud mother of two girls.  Heather graduated from Medical Assisting School at Keiser College in 2004 with honors.  Her experience includes working in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Plastic Surgery.  Heather began working at Calla Slimspa in March 2010 and is passionate about helping people lose weight and feel great!    

Brittany Murphy, Certified Medical Assistant

Brittany was born in Winter Park, FL and has lived in Maitland, FL all of her life.  She received her diploma from Edgewater High School in 2003.  Brittany attended Valencia Community College and graduated from Winter Park Tech in May 2009.  She worked in Pediatrics and Family Practice as a Certified Medical Assistant and joined the Calla Slimspa family in March 2010.

Natalia Cruz, Checkout Coordinator

Natalia was born and raised in Puerto Rico.  She graduated from Academia Adventista Metropolitana High School in 1996 and attended

Ana G. Mendez College for two years studying business administration.  Natalia moved to Orlando, FL in 2001.  She is happily married and has two children, both girls.  She has been working in the medical field for three years and has been Checkout Coordinator at Calla Slimspa since November 2008.            

Jennifer Nardone, Office/Marketing Coordinator

Jennifer is originally from San Antonio, TX.  In December 2007, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a minor in Public Relations from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi.   Jennifer relocated to Orlando, FL in September 2008 to pursue dreams of a career in marketing and public relations.  She joined the Calla Slimspa family in July 2009 where she currently serves as Office Marketing and Social Media Coordinator.

Laura Hansen, Front Office Manager

Laura was born in Wyoming and moved to Orlando at 3 years of age. She graduated from the College of Natural Health as a Medical Aesthetician. Laura is also a certified laser technician after graduating from the Vector Institute. She has been employed at Calla since 2006 and continues to help Dr. Gil and Dr. Scarcella at the weight loss center by coordinating and tracking patient visits and follow up care.

Kristin Hand, Certified Medical Assistant

Kristin was born and raised in Stuart, FL and has lived in the Central Florida area for the last seventeen years.  She has been a medical assistant for seven years and has enjoyed every minute of it.  Kristin graduated from Central Florida College in 2004.  She is very family oriented and extremely proud of her beautiful three year old daughter.  Kristin recently moved to Winter Garden to begin a new life with her family. 

Jessica Delgado, Pharmacy Coordinator

Jessica was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. She graduated from University High School in 2005. Her education and training include phlebotomy and EKG interpretation. Jessica worked for Florida Hospital as a health unit coordinator and monitor technician before joining Calla Slimspa in May of 2010. She is very passionate about nutrition and wellness and could not imagine working in any other field. Jessica is the very proud mother of one beautiful daughter.

Yashira Garcia, Certified Medical Assistant

Yashira was born and raised in Central Florida. She graduated from Everest University with a Medical Assistant diploma. She is planning to continue her education as a registered nurse. Yashira is bilingual and the proud mother of three. “I love what I do and am excited to be part of the Calla Slimspa team”
